Scheifele Hat Trick Powers Canada to 6-5 Overtime Win Over Norway

Hockey player celebrating goal during overtime in a crucial game between Canada and an opposing team

Mark Scheifele scored his third goal of the game in overtime, leading Canada to a narrow 6-5 victory over Norway on Thursday at the world hockey championship.

Norway had taken a 5-4 lead midway through the third period, with Noah Steen and Tinus Luc Koblar scoring goals less than two minutes apart.

Canada pulled goaltender Cam Talbot for an extra attacker with two minutes and 15 seconds left. The strategy worked when Ryan O’Reilly scored to tie the game and send it into overtime.

Scheifele also assisted on other goals to finish with four points in the game.

Winnipeg Jets teammate Gabriel Vilardi contributed a goal and an assist, while Dylan Cozens also scored for Canada. Evan Bouchard recorded three assists.

For Norway, Steen scored twice, while Eskild Bakke Olsen and Johannes Johannsen added one goal each.

With the win, Canada moved into first place in Group B with 11 points, having earned three regulation victories and one overtime win. Canada will next face Slovenia on Friday.
