PWHL Game at MSG Breaks U.S. Women’s Hockey Attendance Record

Large crowd cheering at women's hockey game inside Madison Square Garden in New York City breaking attendance record

The PWHL set a new professional women’s hockey attendance record in the U.S. as the New York Sirens faced the Seattle Torrent at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night. The crowd reached 18,006 fans, surpassing the previous record of 17,335 set at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle on February 27.

That earlier record came shortly after U.S. captain Hilary Knight and her team claimed Olympic gold in Milan. Another large crowd of 17,228 attended a game in Washington on January 28 before the Olympics.

The Sirens played their first game at the iconic Garden and claimed a 2-1 shootout victory over the Torrent. Canadian Sarah Fillier scored the late tying goal in regulation and earned first star honors, having tallied eight goals and an assist in her last seven games.

Goaltender Kayle Osborne stopped 20 shots for New York, improving the Sirens’ record to 8-1-4-12. For Seattle, Alex Carpenter scored their lone goal, while Corinne Schroeder made 37 saves, keeping her team at 6-1-3-14.
