The Montreal Victoire wasted no time choosing their first-round playoff opponent after securing first place in the Professional Women’s Hockey League with a 2-1 shootout win over the Seattle Torrent on Saturday.
Faced with the option of facing the fourth-place Ottawa Charge or the two-time Walter Cup champion Minnesota Frost, Montreal opted for the third-place Frost in the best-of-five semifinal. The other semifinal will pit Ottawa against the Boston Fleet.
Montreal, with a record of 16-6-2-6, will start their series against Minnesota (13-3-5-9) on Saturday, May 2, at 2 p.m. ET at Place Bell. This season, the Victoire swept their head-to-head matchups against the Frost, winning all four games, including two in overtime. This marks Montreal’s third consecutive playoff berth and second straight season finishing first and picking the third-place team as their opponent.
Boston secured home-ice advantage by finishing second with a 16-5-4-5 record and will host Ottawa (9-8-1-12) starting Thursday, April 30, at 7 p.m. ET at the Tsongas Center.
Both Boston and Ottawa are making their second playoff appearances after each reached the finals in their previous debut years—Boston in 2024 and Ottawa in 2025. All four regular-season games between these two required extra time, including three that went to shootouts, with Ottawa winning three of the four matchups against Boston.
