Dima Zhilkin led Canada to an 8-0 victory over Norway at the world under-18 men’s hockey tournament in Trencin, Slovakia on Saturday, scoring three goals and adding an assist.
Gavin Betts earned the shutout by stopping all 12 shots he faced, marking Canada’s second consecutive clean sheet after a 6-0 win against Latvia on Thursday.
Tynan Lawrence contributed a goal and two assists, while Jaxon Jacobson found the net twice. Beckett Hamilton and Zach Olsen also scored for Canada.
The Canadian squad dominated the shot count, outshooting Norway 66-12.
Canadian head coach Drew Bannister praised his team’s effort, saying, “I thought it was a complete game in the sense that we did not have any passengers tonight. These games can be difficult to play in, but I do not think we deviated from our game plan and how we wanted to play.”
He also noted the team’s potential for improvement, adding, “I still think there is room to grow for our group and we can get better. The games are going to get tougher so we will need to be better.”
Canada will face Finland on Monday in their next tournament matchup.
