Andrei Vasilevskiy of the Tampa Bay Lightning has been named the NHL’s top goaltender, earning the Vezina Trophy for the second time in his career. The announcement was made by the league on Saturday.
Vasilevskiy, 31, was a clear favorite in the vote among NHL general managers, receiving 17 of 31 first-place votes. He previously won the prestigious award during the 2018-19 season.
This season, Vasilevskiy led all goalies with 39 wins, finishing with a record of 39-15-14. He helped guide Tampa Bay to second place in the Atlantic Division and secured the team’s ninth straight playoff appearance.
He posted a 2.31 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage, ranking second in both categories behind Colorado’s Scott Wedgewood. However, Vasilevskiy started 58 games, 15 more than Wedgewood’s 43 starts.
Other top finishers in the Vezina Trophy voting included the New York Islanders’ Ilya Sorokin in second place, Boston’s Jeremy Swayman third, Washington’s Logan Thompson fourth, Wedgewood fifth, Philadelphia’s Dan Vladar sixth, New York Rangers’ Igor Shesterkin seventh, and Dallas’ Jake Oettinger eighth.
