The Vancouver Rise earned their first victory of the Northern Super League season on Monday, defeating the Halifax Tides 2-1 on the road.
Co-captain Quinn, a star of the Canadian national team, scored the game-winning goal on a penalty kick in the 59th minute. The opener came from Vancouver’s Jessica De Filippo in the 37th minute, while Jordyn Rhodes equalized for Halifax at 57 minutes.
With the win, the Rise improved to a 1-3 record, while the Tides fell to 1-2-1.
Though outshot 17-7 overall and only matching Halifax 3-3 on target, Vancouver edged possession 51 to 49 percent and recorded more touches and accurate passes. The Tides earned seven corners and had two offsides, while Vancouver managed three corners, four offsides, and received two yellow cards.
Looking ahead, the Rise will host AFC Toronto on Saturday, and the Tides are set to visit the Calgary Wild on Sunday.
