The second season of Canada\u2019s Northern Super League (NSL) kicks off Friday, April 24, in Vancouver, marking a fresh chapter for the league as it builds momentum amid a major year for soccer in Canada.<\/p>\n
Several notable roster changes have already turned heads. AFC Toronto captain Emma Regan and Vancouver Rise\u2019s Holly Ward, both NSL standouts, have been signed by the U.S.-based National Women\u2019s Soccer League. Both also earned spots on Canada\u2019s national team under coach Casey Stoney.<\/p>\n
In a surprising shift, Samantha Chang left Vancouver Rise, where she was captain and a champion, to join AFC Toronto. Unfortunately, a preseason ACL tear sidelines her for the start of the season.<\/p>\n

The league features diverse personalities on and off the pitch. Montreal Roses\u2019 M\u00e9gane Sauv\u00e9, a trained teacher, impresses with her fluent bilingual interviews. Calgary Wild\u2019s Jorian Baucom brings charm and reveals a love for gaming, enjoying Marvel Rivals in her free time.<\/p>\n
Players have grown more comfortable engaging with media since the league\u2019s first season, showing eagerness to share their stories and connect with fans through social media platforms like TikTok.<\/p>\n
Syd Kennedy of Halifax Tides shared a fun tidbit: she can juggle. On-camera, she effortlessly juggled coffee creamers, lightening the mood and showcasing the human side of the athletes.<\/p>\n
Building connections through stories like these helps strengthen the NSL\u2019s fan base as many players have long hoped for professional opportunities.<\/p>\n
Rivalries are fierce in the league, with most players naming AFC Toronto as their main competitor. Toronto\u2019s Nikki Small embraces this mindset: \u201cIf they think that, I\u2019m not mad. It\u2019s us against the world,\u201d she said, underscoring the competitive heart of the NSL.<\/p>\n
The league is also filled with fascinating personalities. Vancouver\u2019s Quinn spoke about a Rise book club initiative, while Ottawa Rapid\u2019s tight-knit squad is led by top scorer D.B. Pridham, who remarked, \u201cPressure is a privilege.\u201d<\/p>\n
Supporters are deeply invested as well. In Vancouver, Mel Bostrom and Jody Chan, co-founders of the Rise\u2019s supporter group the Crows Collective, expressed excitement for the season and the community soccer fosters.<\/p>\n
