The Vancouver Goldeneyes have secured star forward Sarah Nurse with a contract extension through the 2027-28 season, the team announced Tuesday. Nurse becomes the first of three players Vancouver plans to protect as the PWHL’s expansion process gets underway.
Current PWHL teams have until Wednesday evening to finalize their protected player lists. After that, the four new franchises in Hamilton, Detroit, San Jose, and Vegas will begin signing foundational players.
Nurse was one of five players the Goldeneyes signed during last year’s inaugural expansion process. The 31-year-old Hamilton native scored Vancouver’s first-ever goal and finished the season with 15 points—nine goals and six assists—even while missing 11 games due to an upper-body injury.
Prior to joining Vancouver, Nurse played the first two PWHL seasons with Toronto, tallying 37 points (17 goals, 20 assists) across 45 games.
